First Light Kin Hummingbird

First Hover

This work captures the earliest moment of movement.
A young hummingbird, newly arrived in the day, resting briefly before its first hover — not yet in flight, but no longer entirely still.

Surrounded by dew-covered blossoms and soft morning light, the bird exists in a state of readiness. Wings partially folded, body attentive, it gathers itself without urgency. The world is present, open, and waiting — but nothing demands action yet.

Dawn light settles gently across feather and leaf, illuminating possibility rather than outcome. Mist softens the scene, holding the moment in suspension. This is not the flight itself, but the instant before — when potential becomes tangible.

Within First Light Kin, First Hover represents the transition from presence to motion.
The first willingness to move.
The quiet courage of beginning without knowing what follows.

This work offers a reminder that every first step is preceded by stillness.
That becoming does not start with speed, but with allowing life to gather itself — just long enough — before it lifts.
